Mountain; Soho, London 🏔

We recently went to Mountain, sister to the famous Brat located in Shoreditch, which was opened last year by Tomos Parry - and it was everything we expected, and more. With influences from both Spain and Wales, and a core wood-fired cooking style, the menu was adventurous and varied, paired with a fantastic wine list.

We went as a group of 4 and shared x12 dishes, which was perfect for us with the portion sizes. We started with cured dairy beef, fresh cheese & anchovies, grilled sobrassada, and walnut bread with peach & lardo. Sobrassada is a spanish cured sausage, which was served in it's natural oil and a pickled pepper. The fusion of ingredients was very clever, showcasing the fresh flavours and balancing sweet and salt perfectly.

We then moved on to beef sweetbreads & leeks, and spider crab omelette; the best omelette I've ever had! Packed with beautiful flavour, whilst also light and creamy.

These dishes were followed by roasted duck, wood-fired rice, and roasted summer vegetables. The flavour of the wood-fire coming through in the rice paired well with the duck, which was served in a blackberry jus.

We finished with x3 puddings; Torrija with grilled strawberries - this reminded me of what I can only describe as french toast, absolutely delicious! We also enjoyed a custard Ensaimada with cherries; a sort of pastry tart, and a pecan choux bun (my favourite!).

Aside from the beautiful food, Mountain as a whole is very atmospheric, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and passionate about the menu - which makes such a difference in my opinion! A well deserved Michelin star, and I will definitely be back.
